In last forty six years, Karma Kutir has traversed a long way leaving impressive imprints in various domains of social welfare and has made substantial contribution in building up of strong social defence. All through this long journey, Karma Kutir carried out various projects, which had contemporary social relevance, funded by various agencies. So far Karma Kutir has worked hand in hand with different Donors, NGOs and also with the Government, both at the Centre and at the State level.

The areas in focus so far have been :

Empowerment of women through vocational training and Capacity building for
income generation in urban and rural areas;

Urban Welfare Projects promoting health, family planning, nutrition, adult
education, formal and non-formal education;

Creating awareness with regard to atrocities on women;
-
Running Crèches for children of the marginalized section.

Karma Kutir runs a Self Employment Centre where the women after completion of
training, can work on orders generated or facilitated by Karma Kutir and
generate income for themselves. As a part of its self-employment programme,
Karma Kutir runs a show room at P-8, Gariahat Road, Kolkata – 700029, which
remains open to the public on every working day excepting the second Saturday
of the month.

This showroom provides a market outlet to the handicraft products of the
trained women.
|
|
These products are also displayed at the Handicrafts Exhibition organized by
Karma Kutir at its premises, twice a year.
Some items are also on display at Aakriti, a showroom at City Centre shopping
mall at Salt Lake, Kolkata, and also at Bengal Home Industries Association,
Camac Street, Kolkata.

Karma Kutir also participates in exhibitions organized
by other organizations.
|
|
Karma Kutir crafts are widely appreciated and have a ready market at home and
abroad. Karma Kutir also executes custom designs to order.
A number of women trained in Beautician course have been placed at different
Beauty Parlours in the city and more are earning through home visits.
As another step towards empowerment of women a number of trainers have been
selected from the beneficiaries trained at Karma Kutir who excel in their work.
