is a Registered Voluntary Social Welfare Organization working relentlessly to generate
self-employment opportunities for marginalized women and girls in rural as well
as urban areas in India. Karma Kutir upholds the dignity of human life in all its
activities.
Since its inception in 1961, Karma Kutir, has the sole aim of helping the least
privileged women and children of the country. The journey of helping people that
began with the rehabilitation of the uprooted people of erstwhile East Pakistan
is still going on. Through all these years Karma Kutir has successfully carried
out innumerable events and taken up different projects to help the women in distress.
At Karma Kutir, rehabilitation does not mean a mere place to live, it encompasses
economical independence that induces self confidence.
Having full faith in the innate capacity of women, Karma Kutir has over the years,
dedicated itself to capacity building of marginalized women through training in
handicrafts, production, marketing, self-employment and formation of co-operatives.
With the help from international welfare organizations and donations to nonprofits
from different sources, Karma Kutir has successfully organized handicrafts training
camps at interiors of West Bengal and at neighboring eastern and north-eastern states.Karma
Kutir runs a showroom in Kolkata where articles made by the women at Karma Kutir
are sold to raise funds for the future projects.Karma Kutir also sells these handicrafts
through Aakriti,at City Centre shopping mall,Salt Lake,Kolkata. The exhibitions,which
are organised by Karma Kutir, are also great opportunities to sell kantha, batik and
other products crafted by the women.Through all these activities Karma Kutir is
not only providing a livelihood for these women, but also boosting their self-esteem
and saving some extinct art forms of Bengal in the process.
Come and join hands with Karma Kutir in their endeavor.
